The Patron · Noble Courtiers No. 6 | Framed Art Print | Originology | Black History X
Noble Courtiers · No. 6
Some fortunes are worn. Some are kept quietly.
The Patron is a portrait in the grand old-master style: a young Black woman in a dark lace ruff and gold-threaded gown, a heavy gold chain and pendant at her chest, gold bangles at her wrists and her hands folded, calm and certain.
Black women of means lived in Europe's great cities for centuries, with households, wealth and influence of their own. Some sat for painters. Few were remembered by name.
Because the courts of Europe were never as white as their paintings made them look.
The gold is wealth. The lace is status. The folded hands are the point: she has no need to reach for anything.
Black, antique gold, smoky blue and deep umber. Strong enough to hold a room from across it, textured enough to pull you in close.
Perfect for:
- Living rooms, bedrooms and dressing rooms that need a statement portrait
- Lovers of classical and old-master painting
- Anyone drawn to hidden histories
- Black History Month displays
- A gift for someone with quiet confidence
The Patron. Wealth, worn lightly.
Hang it. Sit back. Let her hold the room.
Every wall tells a story.
